A Dark Champion is the first in the Brotherhood of the Sword series by Kinley MacGregor.
Stryder, Lord of Blackmoor or Widowmaker as he is called is the most fearsome warrior England has ever seen. He is a Champion of King Henry. While enslaved Widowmaker became the unofficial leader of the band of brothers that now form the Brotherhood of the Sword.
Rowena or as she is more well know, A Lady of Love despises warriors. Her father was killed in battle and she doesn’t understand the need for war and fighting. She wants to spend the whole of her life writing poetry and singing songs. She would never be able to love a Knight.
Brief Description From Author:
Fearless men, their allegiance is to one another, to the oppressed, and to the secret society known as the Brotherhood of the Sword.
A Lady of Love.
Peace-loving Rowena knows that Stryder of Blackmoor is a warrior, and is therefore a man to be shunned. But something bright burns in the eyes of this powerful knight that she has never seen in others of his kind: tenderness, intelligence and understanding.
Yet to enter his world would be madness and against every principle by which she has lived her life.
A Man of War.
Duty bound to battle for right, Stryder has never desired the comforts of home and hearth, not until he gazed upon the exquisite form of the incomparable Rowena. If only he could find a way to mute the outspoken…
“Styder of Blackmoor afraid? I never thought I would live to see the day a mere maid could send you craven”
“If you still believe in God, then say a prayer for me. He turned a deaf ear to my pleas long ago.”
“What is the matter with the youth of today? In my day, we married when we were supposed to and we married who we were supposed to.”
Once again we see King Henry and his match making skills. He is determined not to lose the lands that belong to Rowena to some simpleton. So between Henry and Queen Eleanor they devise a plan to force Rowena and Stryder together without letting on as to their intentions.
I give this book 5 of 5 Stilettos for the unlikely love story that turned into much more.
